Can’t Attach EEGer Files to An Email (Gmail Client)
When a user exports data from EEGer, special files are created that only EEGer can use. This is to ensure the security of confidential client information and to prevent modification of that data. Because of this, some email clients will flag these files as spam, or as files that may be potentially harmful or malicious. These safeguards are put in place by email clients in order to protect their users, and are a very important part of many modern email clients. They help to protect users against scammers and malicious files.
While the files generated and used by EEGer are 100% safe to use and install, the email client doesn’t know this - it may move emails with these files to Spam, prevent them from being delivered, or not allow these emails to be sent.
These issues are most common with Gmail or other Google mailing services. Thankfully, there are ways to work around these restrictions to allow files to be uploaded and sent.
When sending files online, it's important to understand the Terms of Service of the websites or programs being used. Different providers treat data differently, such as data retention and privacy policies. Please keep this in mind, as we can not guarantee how third-party companies manage or interact with this data (and how they handle it may also change in the future).
While Gmail may not allow files to be attached directly to an email, these files can be uploaded to Google Drive and connected or 'attached' to an email in a different way. For all intents and purposes, sending a file by email using Google Drive works identically as attaching and sending a file normally. Steps on how to do this are broken down below:
Instead of the normal attach button (paperclip), click the Google Drive icon (highlighted) to attach a file to the email. This button should say Insert Files Using Google Drive when the cursor is hovered above it.
A window will appear asking to select which file to upload. By default, it will display files already stored on Google Drive. To upload a new file, click the Upload button.
Drag the file into the window or click the button labelled Select files from your device to browse the computer for a file.
Once the file is selected, click the Attachment button in the bottom right. This will ensure that the file displays properly as an attachment for the recipient. If this does not work for the recipient, repeat the above steps and instead choose Drive link.
Click Upload in the bottom left to finish uploading the file to Google Drive. After this process is complete, the attached file will be present when composing the email.
